SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE FACTS
|
Description The Spirit of Adventure is one of the most luxurious river cruise ships in the world. It’s currently owned by Saga Cruises but it has been in service since 1984 under different names and companies. Today, the cruises held on this ship are considered some of the most culturally and historically rich. While the amenities in the ship encourage relaxation, they’re also mainly for research. One of the highlights of the ship is its big library although the Spirit of Adventure also has an impressive spa. The atmosphere onboard is very casual, but some of the onshore excursions might be too taxing for the elderly and children.
Destinations The Spirit of Adventure travels to the most beautiful rivers around the world. Among its itineraries are the Red Sea, rivers in the Middle East, Cypress, the Danube, the Black Sea, Spain, Greece, and many more. These itineraries may vary depending on the weather.
History The Spirit of Adventure was built in Germany in 1980 for the Peter Deilmann Cruises as MS Berlin. In 1986, the ship was lengthened by 20 meters, and it was also names MS Orange Melody before it was acquired by Saga Cruises and renamed the Spirit of Adventure. The Spirit of Adventure Cruises has a different website. While the cruise ship is owned by Saga Cruises, the Spirit of Adventure is marketed mainly for river cruises.
Dining You can choose to dine in the Dining Room or the Verandah. Dining at the Verandah is more casual (buffet style) while the Dining Room offers a la carte meals. As with most Saga Cruise ships, however, the tables at the Dining Room are by 6s. You don’t have to reserve seats, but may have to share tables with other passengers. Meals are also scheduled, but the Verandah is open 24 hours to serve coffee and tea.
Entertainment There’s a spa facility onboard the Spirit of Adventure and a Library if you wish to read about your destinations. There is also an open-air cinema showing classic and current films, card tables at the briefing room, and assigned binoculars for passengers. The highlight of the cruises is its onshore excursions. Some of them could be challenging, though, with tough terrain. The details of these excursions will be presented to the passengers once they’re onboard the ship. They may choose which excursions to join and which to leave out. The ship also has two swimming pools.
Cabins The Spirit of Adventure has standard, superior, deluxe, junior suite and suite-type cabins. These cabin categories are also graded according to their sizes, and you can choose between inside and outside cabins for the standard, superior and deluxe cabins.
